Please make sure you get your cape to us as soon as possible. The sooner you bring the specimine to us, the sooner we will be able to start the bacteria killing process. A lot of hunters do not know that 5 hrs is all it takes for the fur to start slipping away from the hide of your harvest. Bacteria is the concern. The shape you bring your cape in, is very likely the shape the cape will be on your mount. Please follow these caping processes to provide our shop with a quality specimine.
If you cannot get your cape to our shop in a short amout of time, or the same morning or afternoon you killed your animal, please deep freeze the head and cape by following these steps:
Remove blood as best as you can from the fur with water.
Dry cape.
find a place that the cape can open the cape and let it cool off before you place into deep freeze
Once the entire cape has cooled off, roll the belly side of the cape towards the face, using a towell against the fur.
Cover the animal with a trash bag.
Cover the animal with a second trashbag and tape the bag to the antlers or to itself.
Place in the deep freeze
If you skip step 4, you will cause bacteria to grow as the cape will keep the inside of the cape warm as it is balled up and acts as insulation. This bacteria can cause the fur to slip.
So please, get your specimine to me as fast as possible, or freeze it the right way.
We reserve the right to rejct your cape, and request that you pay for a cape from a tannery.
If your cape slips, and we have to get a new cape, most of the time it is from mishandling of the cape prior to getting it to your taxidermist. You and I will go over all of this when you come.
