tips on transporting your harvest

I know, I know.... get that deer in the back of your vehicle and let the bragging begin! But let me stop you there. Please do no make this costly mistake!! Give us a call if you have any questions.

Below are some tips to ensure you can have us create a life long memory and the meat stays safe enough to eat.

• It takes 5-10 minutes to clean out your truck bed, maybe even faster

• It takes 2-5 min to power wash your truck bed.

• When transporting your specimine on a warm or cool day, it is okay to use bags of ice inside the chest cavity, but please get it to me or a processor as soon as you can. Let the water shed off and away. Do not let it pool in the hair.

• Never place the cape in water. 

• When you can use a cooler, please do so... but there are some stipulations.

• A trashbag will leak as the ice melts, make a mental note of that.

• Use frozen 2 liter bottles inside the cape, inside the fur, and outside the trash bags. Take the lables off. You more than likely will need two trash bags if you decide on that cooling meathod, which I highly recommend.

• If you use a tote/cooler to transport the animal, please do not use loose ice. It will melt and cause a quick bacterial response on your specimine. Hair slippage will happen, and once it starts you cannot stop it. I can attempt to repair the patch, but most of the time a new cape is needed. That will range between $125-$300-or more.

• Think, "food grade transport".

• If you are transporting the specimine after you remove the skin from the body, use a new tarp/plastic or wash and dry your cooler and wrapped up nicely with a couple froze 2liters is usuallly best. That will help you transport the cape and try to keep it as clean as possible.
